Just Write is a writing programme with a difference. Each year Just Write supports ten young writers around the country to develop their writing and media literacy skills and increase their understanding of global issues, such as poverty, human rights and sustainability. We offer a programme of training and support, including writing workshops and one to one mentoring from a local media professional.
Applications are open for the 2010-11 Just Write team!
To join the Just Write team you must:
- Be 14–18 and living in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Be interested in exploring development and global issues and in sharing information and ideas with other young people.
- Enjoy writing and be keen to develop your communication and research skills.
- Commit to the programme for one full year.
- Be available for the first week of training in Wellington from Friday 25 - Sunday 27 June.
During the year you will need to:
- Write four articles, a film/book/music review and create a podcast or video news report. These will be published on the Just Focus website and other youth media, such as Tearaway.
Your scholarship covers :
- Two media/journalism training weekends (Wellington and Auckland, travel and accommodation costs included!).
- Ongoing writing support.
- Mentoring by an experienced local media professional.
You will also:
- Gain a portfolio of high quality published work
- Develop your ability to write to a recognised media standard.
- Receive recognition of your achievement at a formal graduation.
- Be eligible for prizes and giveaways throughout the year.
