Media That Matters Aotearoa 2008

We’re looking for aficionados, optimists, rebels, fanatics, organisers, creators, enthusiasts, doers, experts, champions for the cause, provokers, connoisseurs, believers (especially in what’s just), conjurers, fans, opinion-shapers, thinkers, observers, talkers, advocates, imaginers, exciters, activists – that is to say, young people.

If you’re any of the above, and are interested in being a part of a group of young people who are organising a short film festival called Media That Matters Aotearoa, you should drop us a line.

Media That Matters is a US-based festival which, each year, puts together a reel of 16 short films - most of them made by under-21s – on global issues. It can be anything from gay rights to global warming but all films are under 8 minutes and use the whole gambit of creativity to get people talking about the issues. You can read more about the festival here: www.mediathatmattersfest.org

We need a group of young people (under 21s) to help us lead Media That Matters Aotearoa screenings in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in June… to work with us to decide on the films, the venue, the budget, the food, the inspiring people to come along and talk about the issues, the way the festival is marketed and advertised - pretty much everything, actually.

We’re setting up three youth steering committees – one in each city – so we want to hear from loads of you.

You’ll be supported by a few good people who run Just Focus, as well as a regional coordinator.

It’s a voluntary thing, but you’ll get loads of experience out of it, and we’ll always make sure you’re well fed and entertained, and we reckon have a fair bit of fun too (just a little…).

Keen to find out a little more about what it involves? Get in touch with Tessa by March 2: call 04 496 9510, email tessa@globaled.org.nz, text 0275 728 254.
