GULUWALK - 25 Nov 2006

GuluWalk
Wellington, 25 November 2006
2pm under the Zephyrometer, corner of Evans Bay Parade and Cobham Drive. We then walk 7km to Civic Square.

There are unbelievable stories of tens of thousands children in northern Uganda who walk from their rural villages into the town of Gulu and other urban centres to sleep in relative safety & avoiding abduction by the Lords Resistance Army for use in the country’s 20 year civil war. In the midst of this conflict, over 1.7 million people have been displaced, on top of thousands of night commuters. Displaced persons are forced into camps where thousands die every week. Last year 100 international experts launched a poll on which of the worlds “forgotten” emergencies they wanted the world to focus and act on, and this crisis in northern Uganda came 2nd.

In Wellington on the 25th November we are walking to tell their story.

Last year, over 15,000 people in 38 cities around the world took the very first international step towards telling the story of the children of northern Uganda. GuluWalk attracted people of all nationality, colour, race and religion in a global show of support for the innocent victims of the world’s most ignored humanitarian emergency. In 2006 we expect over 100 cities and 75,000 walkers worldwide. From New York to Beijing, and now New Zealand.

GuluWalk is a one-day worldwide event, focused on raising awareness and support for the terrorized children of Northern Uganda. And this year, they are looking for 10,000 people to be the message of hope. Walk as a workplace or as proactive individuals. Register at www.guluwalk.com
