IFAT GLOBAL JOURNEY REACHES NZ
Your opportunity to get involved!
The world-wide launch of the FAIR TRADE ORGANIZATION MARK took place at the World Social Forum at Mumbai, India in JANUARY 2004. This was the start of the Global Journey. The journey continued over India and then plans to travel over 60 countries of the world across Asia, The Pacific Rim, Australasia, North and South America, Africa and Europe.
In early June the IFAT banner arrived in New Zealand and will be here until August 6 when it is handed ver to Australia at the North America/Pacific Rim Regional IFAT conference being held at TAI in Christchurch from the 4 – 6th August.
Trade Aid is the only IFAT trading partner in New Zealand and this is an opportunity to be part of a global movement to promote Fair Trade using the IFAT mark.
Christchurch will be the last city to hold a global journey event before handing over the banner on the 6th August. During June and July the IFAT banner is touring New Zealand and it is here in Wellington this week (3rd - 9th July 2006).
SATURDAY 8TH JULY 10.30AM
TRADE AID SHOP
IN CUBA MALL
To mark the visit of the IFAT banner Trade Aid invite you to join them at their shop in Cuba Mall on Saturday 8th July from 10.30am. From there we will process the IFAT banner accompanied by dancers down Cuba St. to Civic Square where they will be reading the international message about fair trade that will have been read in over 60 countries by the end of its journey. They will also be signing the banner as one of the places it has visited in its journey. The banner will also be on display in the shop window this week until it continues its journey south towards Christchurch.
The objectives of the Global Journey are to raise awareness of IFAT Fair Trade Organisations and the IFAT mark (what it stands for and who can use it) and our event is part of that work.
