Human rights cross all borders of race, religion, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, language, or any other status. They undermine the very idea of oppression because they state that every person is born free and equal. Human rights recognise our freedom to make choices about our own lives, but also acknowledge our responsibilities to each other. Social justice is a term used to describe justice that goes beyond the law and affords individuals and groups fair treatment and an equal share of the benefits of society, part of which is about ensuring our human rights are upheld.
