Just Focus

Youth Week 2008!

It’s that time of the year again where we acknowledge young people and the crucial part they play in our society!

Youth Week is celebrated from Monday May 26th to Sunday 1 June. It’s ultimate vision is:
“A country where young people are vibrant and optimistic through being supported and encouraged to take up challenges”. It’s about encouraging young people’s participation and connections to their communities.

Each year during Youth Week there are events organised by young people, and those who work with young people, all over New Zealand. Events encourage young people to get involved, have a say, influence opinions, showcase their creativity and talent, share ideas, access information and have fun!

This year, the focus is on ‘relationships’. There are HEAPS of awesome events happening around New Zealand - including concerts, competitions, talks and discussions. To find out whats happening near you, go here

And don’t forget to wear your hoodie on ‘Hoodie day’ - Friday 30 May. It’s about challenging the stereotypes of young people. Check out the youth week website for more info.

Youth Week is coordinated by New Zealand Aoteroa Adolescent Health and Development (NZAAHD). Youth Week is supported by: Ministry of Youth Development, Cancer Society, Families Commission, Office of the Children’s Commissioner, Mayor’s Taskforce and World Smokefree Day.
