What do they do?
Stand Up is a network of young workers around NZ. It is a representative structure of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions which provides a voice and opportunity for young union members to raise issues affecting young workers (most recently they have been active around the minimum wage campaign). Stand Up is also a network which provides young workers and union members support and information about being a union member and being active in their union.
How can I get involved?
Join Stand Up – This will enable you to become active around issues in their workplace. When young workers get together you can be heard, you can make a difference and improve your working conditions. It’s also a way to let others know that they deserve to be treated with respect.
Leadership Development –a series of workshops for Young Workers in Auckland and Wellington, these workshops give young union members the opportunity to mix with other union members and to learn about their role as leaders in their workplace. The workshop also provides information from recruitment to dealing with workplace issues.
Camps – YUM runs a three-day residential/camp training programme for young workers, focusing on activist development and the promotion of greater participation of young members in union organising campaigns. New and experienced young activists are welcome.
