STUFF HAPPENING AT JUST FOCUS
Calling all writers!
This is a great opportunity for you to get your voice heard by youth around Aotearoa. As well as making it onto the Just Focus website, we can now get you published on paper - by writing short pieces for JET magazine. We need YOU to write something for the December issue! We thought, what with chrissy coming up, we should have a look at issues surrounding WASTE. Interested? For more info follow this link. We’ll also be looking for writers for the 2007 issues - so get in touch if you’re interested in seeing your name in print and winning some prizes!
RECENT NEWS AND EVENTS
JF Update
Lena and Eva are back in the office so it’s all go at JF again. Eva had an interesting time in Golden Bay where she helped in the planning for Tides, which is a camp for young women (aged 12-15). Tides and brother programme Tracks are adventure-based programmes run in Golden Bay based around the idea of rites of passage and young people’s development into women and men.
Sadly though, Lena didn’t make it to the Happy Valley — a mix-up in communication kaiboshed her chance to get in — but she hopes to try again before the end of the year.
MAKE POVERTY HISTORY : Sir Bob Geldof - Uncut
Oxfam explain how Bob Geldof sparked a great deal of media coverage and was frequently quoted out of context during his recent visit to New Zealand, when he criticised the level of aid our government gives to the world’s poorest people.
Why trust the media reports? Listen to what Geldof had to say to the New Zealand public about the Make Poverty History campaign and the battle for more and better aid.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?
This Friday, Bono will be a guest on Oprah to help introduce (Product) RED to the United States. (RED) is the simple idea that what we buy can change the world. It’s not a charity. It’s a brand created to raise money for the Global Fund by teaming up with the world’s most iconic brands including Armani, Converse, GAP, and Motorola. Every (RED) product will raise not only money, but awareness.
Read more about this, and join in Nicole’s discussion on Poverty on the JF forum.
