
The WTO held their 6th Ministerial meeting in Hong Kong in December to discuss the crippled Doha round of Trade negotiations. Of the 1300 protestors arrested 14 still remain in custody charged with unlawful assembly. Eleven of the detainee’s have been on a hunger strike since January 5th. More info
Fifteen people gathered outside the Chinese Embassy in Wellington on Monday the 9th of January as a part of an international day of action to show solidarity with the detained activist. More info

A group of Wellington artists and concerned citizens held a “Jam against the WTO” to raise awareness about the ministerial meeting. The Browning Institute for Public Affairs held a forum on neo-liberalism and the WTO.
Auckland Pizza Hut migrant workers went on strike protesting against the current minimum wage and called for all workers to unite internationally against corporate globalisation. Strikers and supporters held anti-WTO banners as “the WTO serves the interests of corporations — minimum wage equals maximum profit” said a union organiser.
